Ingredients for Apple Jelly

  • 500 g apples – 3 medium apples
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • Two flat tablespoons of potato starch
  • juice from half a lemon
  • a spoon of honey or sugar

Homemade apple jelly is a wonderful dessert that can also be served to babies. You should then thoroughly cook the fruit or juice and omit sugar from the ingredients. If your baby is over one year old, you can replace sugar with honey. Add the honey after the jelly has cooled slightly.

Homemade apple jelly is made very quickly. In addition to fruit, apple juice, or apple juice from compote, all you really need is a bit of potato starch. Additives such as water, lemon juice, or sugar help extract the desired flavor and consistency from apple jelly.

Homemade apple jelly

Homemade apple jelly can be prepared all year round. There are many varieties of apples, but I recommend dessert apples. My favorites are the Ligol and Delikates varieties. They are hard, juicy, sweet, and sour. I like and recommend the table variety, Cortlands.

Wash and peel the apples, then cut them into quarters. Remove the seeds, petioles, and peduncles.

Cut the apple quarters into small cubes and place them in a pot. Pour one glass of water over them.

If you prepare apple jelly for a baby after eight months, do not add lemon juice or sugar. To make jelly, choose a sweet and soft variety of apples, e.g., Lobo. You can also cut the apples into cubes or grate them. After boiling the apples and before adding the water with potato starch, I recommend blending the pulp until smooth using a hand blender. Then, continue to cook the applesauce and pour the potato starch and water. Cook the jelly for a while, stirring constantly. After a while, it will thicken, boil again, and be ready.

If the jelly is not for babies, squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a pot with apples that are already boiling and set the burner to medium power. Stir the apples from time to time so that they roast evenly. I don’t cover the pot. Preparing the jelly takes only a few minutes.

When the apples are soft, prepare half a glass of water. Add two tablespoons of potato starch to it and mix everything well. Immediately pour the water cloudy with starch into the pot. Stir the jelly while pouring the water. The jelly will thicken in a few seconds.

Wait until it boils again and the apple jelly is ready. Add a spoonful of sugar or honey if the apples are not sweet enough. However, this step is optional.

I also invite you to try delicious homemade strawberry jelly, which you can make with fresh and frozen strawberries.

Enjoy your meal!
