Knedlíky (dumplings)

Knedlíky

Knedlíky, boiled dumplings from the Czech Republic, are typically served alongside traditional dishes like goulash.

Ingredients of Knedlíky

  • 4 cups quick-mixed or instant flour
  • 1 cup milk, heated
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon yeast.
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar.
  • 1 teaspoon salt.

Instructions

Combine sugar, yeast, and milk. Whisk and leave aside for 10 minutes, or until frothy.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, add flour, egg, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and knead until the dough separates from the bowl edges.

Cover the bowl with a cloth and allow to rise for 2 hours in a warm, draft-free environment.

Dust the work area with flour and shape the dough into three loaves.

Heat salted water in a big pot until it boils. Carefully insert the dumplings into the pot.

Reduce the heat to low and cook the dumplings for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. Throughout the cooking process, keep the temperature at a rolling boil.

Take the dumplings from the saucepan. To release the steam, poke the dumplings several times with a fork.

Cut the dumplings thinly with a sewing thread, dental floss, or sharp knife. Slices should be approximately ¾ inch (2cm) thick.
